Effective Range & Long‑Range Accuracy | The VP9 is really only useful at very short distances (a few meters). It lacks the ballistic performance to engage targets at medium/long range. The Mauser with scope can accurately hit beyond several hundred meters. |
Stopping Power / Terminal Ballistics | .30‑06 is a much more powerful round. It delivers far greater energy, penetration, and ability to stop larger threats or game at distance. The 9mm, especially subsonic or suppressed, is much more limited in what it can effectively do. |
Trajectory / Bullet Drop | The 9mm bullet drops much more over distance; less velocity, less retained energy, more affected by wind. The .30‑06 has flatter trajectory at longer distances, making aiming easier over varying ranges. |
Penetration & Barriers | The .30‑06 is better at penetrating barriers (thick clothing, obstacles, cover, maybe light structures) than a 9mm suppressed pistol, especially since suppressors tend to reduce velocity and energy. |
Capacity / Rate of Fire (for long shots) | While the VP9 has multiple rounds, the need to manually cycle the bolt between each shot slows follow‑up shots. A scoped rifle, once aimed, can fire successive shots more quickly (bolt action is slower but the optic helps get on target). |
Sight / Optic Utility | With a scoped rifle you get magnification, you can see and engage distant targets, use features in scope (range finding, etc.). VP9 has open fixed or simple sights, no magnification, so precision at range is severely compromised. |
Ammunition Performance Variability | Subsonic or suppressed 9mm ammo trades off velocity, energy, and sometimes consistency. Weather, wind, distance have greater impact. The .30‑06 tends to be more stable in those respects. |
Versatility in Role | The Model 98 rifle can be used for hunting, long‑range target, defense, etc. The VP9 is specialized (quiet, close‑quarters or clandestine tasks). It won’t cover the same variety of missions or uses. |
